Fresno Consumers Ice Company
$24.99
The Fresno Consumers Ice Company, founded as San Joaquin Ice Company in 1903, was the first ice plant in the San Joaquin Valley and in Fresno, initiating the first home ice delivery service in the city, first using horse-drawn wagons and later transitioning to trucks in 1924. The company's peak capacity was 30 tons of ice daily, and its workforce grew from 250 in 1903 to 2,000 during the 1920s and 1930s. After ceasing ice production in 1946 to focus on cold storage, the brick portions of the Consumers Ice Company building were demolished in 2008 due to public safety concerns, with only the 1928 concrete structure remaining.
